Electronic Music Marathon 2005

Just recently did another live mix on October 21st at 2:00 pm through the WKDU 91.7 airwaves. DJs raised money for hurricane survivors this year. The show seemed to go by so fast this time around. I found out there were a bunch of empty time slots so maybe next year I'll ask if I can play an extra show if there are any unclaimed slots.

There is an mp3 of the show available below. However, I should explain that it's not a recording of the mix performed on October 21st as I forgot to bring a minidisc with me to the radio station. I re-performed the mix at home on October 30th and it sounds pretty much exactly as it sounded the first time I performed it. It just doesn't have the host DJ's voice overs and such. Also, I snuck in an extra song I wanted to play but had to skip due to time constraints. Also, this mp3 was be created from an audio file exported directly from the mixing program I use rather than audio that went from my computer through a crappy 1/8" plug to rca wire into the stations turntable mixer then out through another wire down the hall to their mixing board then from that into the minidisc deck. Oh wait, we're not done. Minidisc audio is compressed first of all. It's gotta be uncompressed by a minidisc player, then travel through an audio cable into a computer soundcard and recorded by an audio editor. At the end of all that nonsense I'll be lucky to have audio that's not drowned out by distortion, clipping, buzz, and hum. At this point it's time to normalise and hard limit the audio, then re-compress it to an mp3. To make a short story from a long story that's already been told, yous guys get a few bonuses.

DJ Kel invited me to DJ on his WKDU radio show for an hour on February 16th, 2005. I prepared a nice mix and played it live using Native Instruments Traktor DJ Studio. This mix turned out a lot better than my EMM 2004 mix. Below is a link to the mp3 and a playlist.

On October 19th at 2:00 AM I played my music live on Drexel University's radio station. It was the first time I've ever done a live PA and it was quite fun. I'll take what learned from this experience and hopefully create an even better show for next year. I brought a minidisc with me and came away with a recording of the show. Very special thanks to Scott Kelly (DJ Kel) for the invite to EMM '03 and for helping me carry and set up my equipment. I wouldn't have had this opportunity without him. He actually invited me to EMM '02 but at that time I didn't have enough good material or the knowhow to do a live show.
